Who is Azor Ahai? Take a look at this handy chart!

Image
Who is Azor Ahai? The Lord of Light’s chosen? The Prince Who Was Promised? The messiah who will save mankind from the Long Night? That’s one of the most persistent questions among fans of  A Song of Ice and Fire  and  Game of Thrones . The myth of Azor Ahai is mentioned often in  ASOAIF , usually by Melisandre. Here’s her retelling the prophecy that foretells his/her coming: There will come a day after a long summer when  the stars bleed  and the cold breath of darkness falls heavy on the world. In this dread hour a warrior shall draw from the fire a burning sword. And that sword shall be  Lightbringer , the Red Sword of Heroes, and he who clasps it shall be Azor Ahai come again, and the darkness shall flee before him. And again, later: When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be   born again amidst smoke and salt   to wake dragons out of stone.               There’s even a story to go along with the legend, about the first Azor Ahai

Game of Thrones season 7: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau responds to THAT Cersei theory

Image
GAME OF THRONES fans have gone into overdrive since first look images for season seven were revealed last week and now  Nikolaj Coster -Waldau has responded to a fan theory sparked by one photo.                  One image shows Queen Cersei (played by Lena Headey) sitting on the Iron Throne while her brother Jaime stands behind her in solidarity.  Fans of the HBO series were quick to notice the sword that was fastened to the knight's hilt, Widow's Wail, and noted that  it could mean Jaime would kill his sister .  Now the actor himself has insisted that the theory "absolutely" makes sense and is perfectly plausible.  "I heard that theory, and it absolutely makes sense," Nikolaj told Harper's Bazaar. "It would be a perfect little nod.  Game of Thrones: Fans believe that Jaime could kill his sister after this photo was revealed                      Game of Thrones: Nikolaj said that the theory is plausible and Jaime coul

Danaerys heads for the Iron Throne - and potentially a big cheque   G ame of Thrones has usually returned to our screens by this time of year, welcoming in the longer days and warmer temperatures with a healthy dose of blood, deceit and dragons.  The penultimate, seventh season of   Game of Thrones   will not air until mid-July, however – and will be two episodes short of the usual 10 That hasn't stopped rife speculation about the cast's pay packets for the HBO flagship show, however. Video: Watch the full Game of Thrones panel from SXSW

Image
> (Photo by Amy E. Price/Getty Images for SXSW) Last month, a quartet of  Game of Thrones  heavyweights — showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss together with actors Maisie Williams (Arya) and Sophie Turner (Sansa) — visited the South by Southwest festival in Austin, TX to talk about the show. We  reported  on  everything  that went down, from the discussions of what’s coming in seasons 7 and 8 to the casting process to the funny behind-the-scenes shenanigans. Now,  JasonJyeah  has uploaded a video of the panel to YouTube. The panel is nominally a question-and-answer session, with Williams and Turner asking the questions and Benioff and Weiss answering them. It often breaks down, though. We’ve compiled a little guide to some of the more interesting moments below. Watch away.                             A guide: 1:10 — On the difficulties of casting the Stark girls. They looked at 300 girls for Arya before finding Maisie Williams. 2:25 — Williams and T

Game of Thrones star Kit Harington responds to one of the biggest Jon Snow fan theories

Image
A prophecy has foretold the return of a legendary hero to save Westeros Jon Snow has been the biggest enigma on  Game of Thrones . Was he really dead, we all asked? (He wasn't.) Was he the secret son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark? (He was.) And now we have another big question: is  Kit Harington 's character really the "prince that was promised"? As pointed out by  Mashable , both the HBO show and George RR Martin's books have introduced us to a prophecy concerning Azor Ahai, a legendary figure who once defeated the darkness using his burning sword, named Lightbringer. The followers of R'hllor say he will soon be reborn as "the prince who was promised". Being a well-trained  Game of Thrones  actor sworn to secrecy on pain of death, Harington won't give much away. When asked by the Huffington Post whether Jon is the reincarnation of Azor Ahai, he would only say: "I think you have to wait and see what happens this y

Nathalie Emmanuel talks about Game of Thrones season 7, Missandei’s romance with Grey Worm, and more

Image
> Nathalie Emmanuel  has been doing a lot of press lately for  The Fate of the Furious , which comes out this weekend. That also means plenty of opportunities for journalists to ask her questions about  Game of Thrones , where she’s played Daenerys’ councilor Missandei for the past four seasons.  In Style  grilled her  particularly hard, and while Emmanuel is too experienced to reveal any big secrets about season 7, she did offer a quality tease: " I’m excited about this season because a lot of the momentum we’ve been building with this winter that is coming, or has been coming for a long time, kicks into gear now. And there’s a continuation of characters who haven’t previously interacted coming together, which is always exciting to watch." Jacob Anderson: ‘People Actually Ask Me if I Have Genitals in Real Life’

Image
Jacob Anderson , who plays Grey Worm  on Game of Thrones , recently spoke to Daily Star and revealed that some fans actually think that he is castrated in real life: “To me my careers are completely separate but for some Game Of Thrones fans it’s too much for them to understand. In fact, a lot of people don’t like it. Some fans just don’t understand that Grey Worm isn’t a real person. People actually ask me if I have genitals in real life. They really think I’ve been castrated. They also ask if the dragons are real. Sometimes people are taking the piss but others really can’t understand it is not real life. It’s a bit weird and alarming actually. I like to keep myself to myself so it is a bit freaky when you’re stuck on a tube and someone is just staring at you or trying to take a picture of you.”

The new Game of Thrones costumes are hitting all of fashion's top trends

Image
Sure, in the kingdoms of  Game of Thrones  there's the undead lurking around, and people quite willing to pull your innards out through your bellybutton and all that, but the terror of making a fashion faux pas? Well, that's pretty high up there. So it's quite fitting really that the new costumes unveiled by the cast of  Game of Thrones  this week are decidedly on-point. As in, could have been on the catwalks in Paris, New York and Milan earlier this month. Chic! Take, for example, Tyrion Lannister (the wickedly wily black sheep of the Lannister family, and the  GoT  character you'd most like to have a drink with). His pinstripe vest? It would have fit right in at DKNY's New York show, especially with that immaculate tailoring - Tyrion is a man that knows that sartorial impressions count. Leather features prominently in the new costumes, with unusual shapes, a focus on detail and directional tailoring - so basically a nod to Anthony Vaccarello's show
